Amazon & Google in Bed, Black Hat SEO; Search & Adwords Dishonesty

Updated 4-7-13

Here are many evidences of Amazon.com being "in bed" together for both search and Adwords:

  • Here is a quote I received from a Google Adwords supervisor (Adam) after complaining that I received an invalid click in one of my Adwords campaigns:
"The reason why you were seeing potential clicks from Amazon and other third party search sites is because they're part of the of the Google Search Network."

    Oh really!
    Right from the horses mouth!
(No disrespect meant to Adam as he was very helpful & simply repeating the "company line".)

Sorry Google, Amazon.com is NOT a search engine in most persons views!

As well this is a clear conflict of interest since Google is bringing up an admitted partner in both paid and organic searches.

Here is a screen shot of the invalid link that became the reason as to my inquiry with Google Adwords as per Amazon:

PLEASE CLICK ON THE SCREEN SHOTS TO ENLARGE

I might add, that Google has Search Ads and Content Ads.
My account is/was set to Search ONLY, so when an Ad click comes in from a site other than Google or a true search partner such as Ask.com, I have question the click.
By most persons I know any Ad appearing on a web page is a CONTENT Ad, NOT a Search Ad.

What is noteworthy too, The page my Ad was placed on had questionable content to the Ad and search query used to trigger this Ad in the first place

  • Amazon recently changed their TOS with affiliates in a way that forces some affiliates who had been embedding or cloaking their links to use naked links instead.

What is interesting is good SEO practices of 7-8 years ago stated that it was more authoritative to embed URLs within a good well written article. HOWEVER recently Google has "changed the rules" and stated naked URLs/Links are better and more "natural" making anyone who wrote good content suddenly black hat SEO spammers. Amazon is clearly taking advantage of this with their software that can convert these URLs back to naked URLs

Amazon in Bed with Google, anti small business practices

  • Amazon is taking advantage of their many 1000s of affiliates by pointing often irrelevant content back to content that Amazon is attempting to .
One evidence is the use of a canonical tag from 1000s of affiliate website.
While using a canonical is not considered a black hat technique, the clear abuse by Amazon.com clearly indicates Google should be taking note.
Here is a screen shot example "Amazon Cloaking" from the source code of one of many affiliate pages found when the raw search term: "Syma-S107-S107G-Helicopter-Red" is typed into a Google query:

    Reference:
*Black Hat World; Amazon & Google in bed together?

  • Irrelevant Google Search queries.

In my field of expertise; Researched Aquarium & Pond Care information, Google has simply become Amazon.com's bitch. With junky versions of products masquerading as the real deal, or worse, products displaying when a scientific process is the search query.

This is not to say the other search do not bring up Amazon, but not to the over whelming amount of top results, often above actual scientific information as does a Google search.

Here is one glaring example (there are many):
For the search query Aquarium UV Sterilization, WHICH IS A SCIENTIFIC PROCESS, none of the top results is actually truly addressing this process.
Although at the bottom of page 1, another website that has Google as their bitch IMHO is About.com. The webpage while more about the actual process is still essentially a "nothing special" cut and paste website with VERY questionable content.

Back to the Amazon.com result for this query, it is NOT AT ALL ABOUT this process, rather it is for a product.
EVEN worse, it is for a junk product (Killing Machine) that cannot even perform this process, rather it performs at best UV Clarification, NOT UV Sterilization.

I have made spam reports for the web page in question and many others, months before writing this article, yet they remain, so Google is well aware of their junk search results, but chooses to do nothing!!

Come on Google, how stupid do you think we are??

    References:

  • Google Refusing to act as per the DMCA law.

The first of the above referenced web pages was also partially copied without permission and without providing a proper/legal credit back the referenced UV Sterilization Website.

Here is Google's response on May 27 2013:
"We have reviewed your request based on our policies concerning content removal. At this time, Google has decided not to take action."

    Really Google???
As a results, this original content web page dropped from Google serps while the about.com replaced it even when the content in question was pasted directly into Google search.
Thankfully after some legal threats, about.com did the "right thing" and provided proper credit to the content source (although the original content as of Oct. 2013 has never recovered in Google search and in fact the about.com article still is #1 for this specific content search).

The bottom line is this shows Googles TOTAL LACK OF ETHICS, so how are we to believe Matt Cutts or anyone else at Google including claims they are "not in bed with Amazon"???

  • Adwords Dishonesty.

While slightly off subject, it is still noteworthy that it is likely these changes to Google search algorithm, especially since the terrible Penguin 2 update and likely the lame Hummingbird update (which has shown NO IMPROVEMENT in search quality) is to benefit the Adwords side of Google.

I have several screen shots of invalid clicks that Google manages to make some sort of excuse as to their validity.

In one, Google clearly provides and charges for a click from Armenia, even though the account is clearly set to USA ONLY

Googles excuse is one needs to go into advanced settings to change this to prohibit person searching incognito from other countries as if in the USA.
There reason this is the default?
Google employee example: If someone was thinking of visiting Los Angeles and they desired to know what restaurants that their might be, Adwords listings would appear to the benefit to both the advertiser and searcher."

    My response:
This is a rare exception where the Advertiser should have to use the "Advanced settings" to allow this.

Why would anyone one in Armenia search for Aquarium or pond products in southern Oregon when we all know damn well they are not going to visit here and take such an item back on the plane.

    My counter analogy:
"If I have an accident and my seat belt automatically releases me upon impact and I complain to the auto maker that this should not have happened and they reply back that I should have gone into the glove box and turn off a switch that tells the seat belts to not release" This is EXACTLY what Google is attempting to do"

This default and many other in Google Adwords is simply deceitful.

This, along with so many other aspects of Google such as the allowing of plagiarized content to show Adwords and much more make it very difficult to believe Matt Cutts or anyone else at Google as IMHO, they have lost ALL CREDIBILITY!!

Here is a screen shot of this deceitful Adwords click from Armenia:

IN SUMMARY:

I would be MORE than happy to change and re-write everything I have wrritten about Google Search issues, Adwords, Adsense, etc; ALL I ASK IS THAT GOOGLE LISTEN TO THE LITTLE GUY AND FIX THESE ISSUES!
Stop forcing Matt Cutts to go out and make up stories of how Google is trying to fix these issues when the evidence says otherwise!!!

Google Search, DMOZ, Aquarium Lighting

Google Search, DMOZ, Aquarium Lighting
I am returning to a common blog post theme here and that is Google. More specifically here; "Google Search" and how their more and more spammy search results are now allowing "black hat SEO" tricks spam their algorithm.
Participating in this ruse is DMOZ (the Open Directory Project).

If you were to type in: "Aquarium Lighting Information", the first result is: http://www.aquarium-lighting-guide.com/

This website is nothing more than Adsense bait website with non-information that has NO REAL information about this subject.
The so called "information" found there in has no real value, basically it is smarmy 1 or 2 sentence information one might expect from a child who is doing cut and paste homework.
Even then what little "meat" found in this article is very outdated. So basically reading this article is like a journey back to the 1990's reading a brief middle school kids one day homework about the subject of "aquarium lighting"

BUT IT GETS WORSE!!!!

This same website is practicing "black hat SEO" by having multiple website domains (URLs) with the SAME exact content!
See this URL for one example: http://www.aquariumlightingguide.com/

Worse yet is DMOZ (the "Open Directory Project"), which claims to have human editors has allowed this spam website into their directory
See:
http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Pets/Fish_and_Aquaria/Do-It-Yourself/

Sadly DMOZ has never allowed good content websites such as "Aquarium Lighting; Information" or "Aquarium Answers" into their directory after 8 years of requests for these and other quality aquarium/pond websites based on decades of experience and 1000s of hours of research.
Reference:
*http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/

As well, dishonest websites/forums such as "SEO Chat" will defend DMOZ with vile "straw man" arguments and personal attacks.

In summary, it amazes me that Google Search, as well as DMOZ have ANY credibility whatsoever!!

But then when has the news media EVER performed ANY responsible journalism about their "darlings" and Google is certainly one of their "darlings".

Before I single out the left-wing dishonest news media for irresponsibility in reporting Google's dishonesty in Search, Adsense, Plagiarism and more; I also have to call out Rush Limbaugh (whom I otherwise generally respect) for his constant use of the term "Googled".
See here for an example:
What Happened When Rush Googled
I have to ask when even those who claim on the "right" to be for the "little guy" or small business, such as Rush Limbaugh, then turn around and use terms such as "Googled" that infer credibility to Google and their terrible and dishonest algorithm;
How is integrity EVER GOING TO WIN OUT?????

Google Panda, Farmer Algorithm Update

"Testing Googles new Farmer/Panda AND NOW THE EVEN WORSE PENGEUIN Algorithm; Verdict, it is only a sham to get more Adsense revenue and is very anti-small business!"

SEE THE POLL AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE!

Updated 9/18/13

Is Google's new algorithm any good, lets look at some FACTS based on my field of expertise (I have been in UV Sterilization and aquatic research and development since 1978)

Let's type in "UV Bulbs" (which for most persons in this field means replacement UV-C lamps/bulbs)

First Result:
http://www.bulbman.com/
This website only has a link to UV-C replacement bulbs, and even here the content is poor

Second Result:
http://www.topbulb.com/find/uv.asp
A little better, but still black lights are sold on this page and again, content is poor as per useful information for making a good decision

I might also add as per the first two results, both have marginal back links and very little reason to appear as they do on Googles terrible search algorithm

Third Result (now a SECOND PAGE result due to the Google Penguin disaster):
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/UVCReplacementLamp.html
Google finally gets it right; yes I am partial, but when you look at the accurate, specific information, Meta Tags, back links for reliable authoritative sources, there is no excuse that this link should not be #1 as it is on Yahoo or MSN (Bing)

Forth Result:
http://www.freshwatersystems.com/c-413-uv-lamps-accessories.aspx
Again mostly irrelevant results, basically UV systems
Fifth Result:
http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/cat/info/23267/category.web
Sadly again, irrelevant results, these are reptile lamps (SO SAD Google)

Sixth Result: http://www.diyhomecenter.com/uv-bulbs/ Finally more relevant results, although content information could be better NOW with the Disgusting Spam Ridden Penguin Update, this page is no longer present for most relevant search keywords; which is sad since this is the most extensive and accurate UV Bulb Guide/Directory available on the Internet!
http://www.uvreplacmentbulbs.com/
Again finally more relevant results, with good information and links to very specific accurate content

*Now check Yahoo or MSN, while certainly not perfect, the page yields twice as many relevant results as Google. I will not address each individual results, as quite bluntly it does not take a rocket scientist to see the difference.

Now let's try, "which a UV Sterilizer can help maintain"
This is phrase that is specific to an article that has been plagiarized by About.com
Google is now treating the ORIGINAL CONTENT as the spam and about.com as correct.
How absurd is this Mr. Matt Cutts of Google?
Reference: Pathological liar, Matt Cutts of Google

Sadly the correct article with this researched content is this one:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumUVSterilization.html
THIS IS the MOST UP TO DATE and researched to be found on the Internet. This article goes all the way back to my first controlled experiments in 1979, NO OTHER "cut & paste" article that Google displays can even come close to claiming the research and content of this article!!!!
The content is constantly being refreshed, yet if you use Google Search, you may have more trouble finding it when compared to Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, or Blekko

Now try "Planaria in Aquarium" or "Wiggly Aquarium worms", both of which our a couple of the main search terms for this aquarium problem based on stats and research.
The results here are down right mind boggling in inaccuracies & misinformation.
The results are anecdotal BS!!

UPDATE Now with the Penguin Update the ONE truly Accurate webpage cannot even be found on Google's putrid Penguin algorithm.

Planaria are predatory flatworms, not the annelid worms that consume detritus which is what all these pages are describing. This is allowing for the dangerous dissemination of misinformation! SHAME ON GOOGLE and the disgusting AND DISHONEST Matt Cutts!!

Still as of April of 2013 the second result is a SPAM blog that is made up of nothing more than "Cut & Paste" articles, including a terrible article about Planaria that is 100% incorrect as per identification, dangers, etc. confusing Planaria with Detritus worms.
Sadly this article is the typical cut and paste spam found in all the articles on this site in question and what Google Panda thinks are good results.
Here is this site to avoid:
http://onedersave.com/blog/

The only correct article is:
http://www.fish-as-pets.com/2007/11/planaria-detritus-internet-answers.html
Unfortunately this is now nowhere to be found on a Google Search!!

If one used the cut & paste logic of what makes quality content as per Google, one could conceivably get nothing but websites to the top of Google Search claiming that in fact the Earth IS flat.
The facts are that two VERY different creatures are being confused that have about as much in common as a dog to a lizard (as per scientific classification), yet because of Google's very spam driven algorithm that places authority to cut and past website many are being given the wrong information and are harming their fish as a result!!

I could use many more examples, such as how about.com comes up in way too many searches, and I thought it was this type of information spam site (content farm) that Google claims to be addressing in their new algorithm update.
While typing in "Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle" yields better results in Google, the fact that the information spam site about.com comes up proves Google has not addressed this issue very well, as well sadly Fish Lore also comes up and this website too is an anecdotal spam site, providing aquarium cycling information that was discredited two decades ago, yet sadly resurfaced on the internet.
Reference: Proven aquarium cycling methods
An interesting note is this Fish Lore Article erased most of its content, including their bogus Raw Shrimp cycling suggestion, yet this article is still a very basic fluff article with little original content, YET still ranks well in Google; AGAIN SO SAD GOOGLE!!

About.com also comes up in an extremely misinformed/highly inaccurate article about Columnaris; anyone reading this article will be provided terrible information both in treatment and prevention.
Correct Reference: Accurate Aquarium Fish Columnaris Information

Come on Google and Matt Cutts, who are you fooling?
We know you are calling this an improvement when in reality this is a way to get more spam content up to that then forces readers to click on Adwords?

As well it is well known that these spam sites that now do so well in Google search along with Amazon get breaks in Adwords cost per click.

While I am addressing Googles lack of any integrity, I have to ask when Google Adsense will stop using plagiarized content to place their ads on all the while denying at least three credible sites that I know the use of their original content for Adsense?!

One of the few ways we can get back at Google is for advertisers to opt out of the "Content" network with their Adwords campaigns.
If every advertiser were to do this, it would force Google to take a second look at their support of "Scrapers" (websites that steal legitimate websites content for the sole purpose of selling Adsense for the Adwords content network)!

Updated 10/02/11!!

Google has tweeked their Panda Update even more, and even more spam sites (often displaying Google Adwords/Adsense) are appearing above good/real content that thankfully still appears on superior MSN/Yahoo searches.

Another search with the keywords "Aquarium Information" recently yields a clear spam site: http://newaquariuminformation.com/
This website is NUMBER ONE on Google and is nothing more than a site to sell ads with aquatic information that is VERY dated. As well the way this web page is designed, it is clearly set up to manipulate the system. ANOTHER Google Penguin FAIL!!!!
I do not know whether to laugh or cry (I showed the "Lighting" page from this site to another professional in the industry who also could not believe what they were reading, it was like a time machine to 1985!!

Compare this to this web page in regularly updated content and researched accuracy:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Lighting.html"

In fact the search term "Aquarium Lighting Information" now brings up mostly websites selling products generations out of date; this is similar to a web search for information about computers bring up information about DOS computers circa 1985 instead of a modern HP, Apple, etc. running a modern operating system such as Windows 7. Here is the Google number one result for "Aquarium Lighting Information" (as of the last update here):
http://www.aquarium-lighting-guide.com/
This page is pure content crap! As well it is an insult to anyone such as myself that has spent a life's work in aquarium research that this would be the number one result.
Worse is I have have reported this to Googles webspam site multiple times over the last year, yet it remains; this once again shows Googles and Matt Cutts TOTAL LACK OF INTEGRITY!!
Here is Googles joke of a web spam reporting page:
Report Web Spam

Another sham of Google Panda & Penguin, is that large businesses, regardless of content quality have leaped over better content smaller businesses.
In fact JCPenney which was recently caught with "black hat" SEO in their link building schemes, is suddenly back up for the difficult keyword; "lamps" (great job Google, NOT!)

Another search in my field of endeavor for SeaChem, has the company SeaChem coming up first as it should, however several large companies including the ultimate crap seller; Amazon leaping over quality sites with vastly better content, reputation, and more. Another Google Panda Fail!

SUMMARY

Let me point out a couple of flaws with Googles statements:

(1) Clearly Content is NOT king with Google search and I could provide example after example in my field of expertise.

What is "in Google search" is so-called authority back links. If someone at CNN or another authority website gives your website or blog a thumbs up; you are "in with Google" even if your facts are dead wrong and your content is cr##.

(2)Google likes to make the case that links should come naturally as a vote for a website, blog, etc.
HOWEVER while this might be all well and good in principle, SCIENCE AND FACTS NOT A VOTE (sorry Matt Cutts, you are wrong again).
As I have noted when cut and paste BS such as about Aquarium Planaria posted everywhere on the Internet, that does NOT make it true.
Is Matt Cutts really this stupid? No, I think this dishonest hack for Google Adsense knows exactly what he is doing!

The bottom line is if you are an aquarium or pond keeper and you use Google Search for information, may God have mercy on your fish!

Google Adwords Manipulation of Results; Failure in Advertising

This page updated 5/3/14

Update 1/25/11; I performed a test of Google using my wife and two employees names, addresses and unique emails.

I requested a Google Adsense account for these websites:
*Aquarium Information,
*Aquarium Answers,
*UV Bulbs, &
*Misti King Family Blog.

The first three are regularly plagiarized and have very unique content (especially Aquarium Answers), however the forth is a more ordinary blog (no offense to Misti), that does not have nearly the content nor is it plagiarized.

Guess what? Google denied the three that they are already placing Adsense on plagiarized web sites without legal permission while allowing the third.

If this does not speak volumes about the corruption and dishonesty that is rampant at Google, nothing will.
Sadly the news media and others love affair with this allegedly EXTREMELY CORRUPT LIBERAL CORPORATION guarantees nothing will ever come of this. I also doubt that any lawyers with integrity will ever step forward and take on a class action lawsuit against this disgusting company

Although Google is the darling of the drive-by-media (which has about as much credibility any more as Osama Bin Laden has in teaching others to love their neighbors), they have actually gotten worse with their hypocritical use of Adwords/Adsense on illegal blogs/websites that use copyrighted articles to make money for both them and Google.
Reference: List of News Media Lies

What Google is doing is nothing new and not personal against me, this is how they treat all small businesses and individuals and why they are the multi billion dollar company they are, by going after and taking money from the little guy that cannot afford lawyers. Say what you will about Bill Gate's business practices, at least he has gone after those who can afford lawyers and to get the medias attention (I will also point out he is the #1 contributor to Autism research, etc. in the world).

Recent Google Searches have yielded many sites, but a web site in particular has ripped multiple articles from these web pages I own/copyrighted:
*Aquarium Answers Posts
*Aquarium Information articles.
*Aquarium Lighting Article

In a search using excerpts from these and other researched and popular articles, helped me find this article chock full of Google Adsense/Adwords adverts

Here is the specific article plagiarized from me:
http://www.newportme.com/and-nanometers/aquarium-lighting-wattage-kelvin-and-nanometers.php (Please note that this url was not renewed, so my plagiarized content no longer displays on this particular website)

What is especially sad is that Adsense recently denied my article sites for content, and what makes this even more sad and blatently dishonest is that my articles are constantly researched and updated for accuracy of content, which these articles have not.
I have written many departments at Google and have gotten either no reply or lame dishonest answers such as Google stands by only offering up ads on the highest quality sites that have been checked by Google. WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP, and sadly many buy this load and continue to think Google is this company with the highest of integrity when the opposite is true!

I have spent the better part of 3 decades in hands on and research of outside sources to write my many articles, as well I have worked hard at providing often hard to find or unique products such as hard to find UV Bulbs & T5/T8 straight/standard UV Bulbs only to see Google take advantage of this to their dishonest gain.
Sources: http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/UVCReplacementLamp.html &
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/T5T8UVBulbs.html

What Google does is to provide nice products such as Google Docs, email and many other first rate services (although I beg to differ as to the quality of their searches since they are weighted heavily by the old boy network at DMOZ).
Source:
http://www.fish-as-pets.com/2008/06/aquarium-forum-hall-of-shame-2.html

I will admit that this is a blogger hosted blog, however it should be noted that I have been with Blogger for some time and that Google bought them out as they have many other good services.
How Google pays for this is their dishonest and corrupt business practices such as screwing the little guys such as myself that cannot afford a lawyer or a class action lawsuit that Google deserves (I doubt there are too many Lawyers with the Huevos Grandes to take on Google anyway).

Just in case Google does take action about this site in particular, here are a few screen shots that show just a little of the ripped articles and the hypocritical Google Adwords being run there:
Please click to enlarge
New Port Me page two
Illegal Google Adwords

AdWords Corruption:

Another aspect of Google Adwords/Adsense corruption is they Ad Scores. Google employees will not even be honest and tell you why an ad score is low, rather they hide behind a corrupt rating algorithm that is meant to score Ads low so as to charge more per click.
As an example, the search term "UV Bulb" & "UV Bulbs" gave me a score of 3 even though both search terms are contained there in. As well the landing page has both terms relevanty spread over the EXTREMELY content rich page with links to further related information NO OTHER site in Google Adwords provided.

Worse, a website that came up ahead of my ad took three clicks to reach the very popular G23 9 Watt UV bulb, and even then on a very content poor website (this even with a cost per click that is 40% of profit, which of coarse at normal CTR of 5% does not even come close to paying for the ad).
See product link:
http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/UVCReplacementLamp.html#9wattg23

Come on Google, who are you fooling other than Obamanites
??

What others can do:

Hopefully someday others, especially either the masses or those with the power to inspire the masses such as the media or popular TV/Radio show hosts like Rush Limbaugh will put their money where their mouths are and call Google to the mat (and stop using the vomit inducing phrase “to Google something” instead of simply to search).
Maybe then Google as a company will rise to the quality of many of its services instead of the bottom feeder this company is currently (ask Steve Jobs his opinion of Google of late for ripping off his iPhone platform).

If a basic search engine is desired that does not collect your personal information and is what Google USED TO BE 10 years ago, consider:
DuckDuckGo

I have sent emails to many in my business and friends contact, as well I have urged members of my aquarium/pond forums to switch to using Yahoo or Bing as their home page instead of Google. I know of at least a couple dozen persons who have made this switch, which admittedly a drop in the bucket, but if enough other businesses with similar experiences start similar campaigns and those who received these forwarded emails do likewise, this can make a difference and Google will take notice (although in their extreme arrogance they may not figure out why).

As well Microsoft and Yahoo need to stop taking Google head on with their search engines, as although I strongly beg to disagree that Google is the better search engine (especially since they use DMOZ to weight many sites and DMOZ is nothing more than a good ole boy network of late), although sadly most in this country are convinced that Google is 'good'.
In my opinion the other search engines need to other unique services such as Google Apps, Docs, better blogging, less buggy email (are you listening Yahoo?), etc; maybe then many will switch just to use these services for which Google clearly is the king of for the time being.

Finally boycott websites that are nothing more than Google hacks such as Web Pro News, whose heavy handed editing removes posts that expose the truths about Googles business practices (I know as I used to comment there).
This goes especially Web Pro News writer Chris Crum who is so in love with Google it is down right pathetic. Chris Crum could give George Stephanopoulos a run for his money as to lack of integrity in journalism IMHO!
