Why Iraq?
While I am not Rumsfield’s biggest fan, but there were other reasons to go into Iraq other than WMD. Also it should be noted that while American and British Intelligence screwed up in stating that Saddam still had this WMD program going. The difference is putting some back bone into statements to reveal what he did have.
Do you remember history and “Peace in our time”? Well if someone had more back bone then, maybe 2 million Jews as well as Russians, Poles, Gypsies would still be alive. Not to mention Chinese and Koreans killed by the Japanese. But then removing a man from power who has killed hundreds of thousands of Kurd men, women and children is not worth it either???
Things did not go well in first part of US involvement in WWII. We met some disastrous defeats in North Africa and until Midway it looked quite bleak in the Pacific (unless you count Dewey's raid on Japan, which was more for morale).
Here are a few facts from Iraq:
There are 5 million cell phone users in Iraq where before there were none under Saddam. Iraq has 33,000 new businesses. There is 25% female parliamentary representation, which is the highest in the Arab world. Iraq now has 4500 schools that have been rebuilt and stocked with 8 million textbooks. And there are 150 politically free TV stations and newspapers which can broadcast and print uncensored.
A) Saddam's general published in a book that he himself oversaw loading WMD missiles into aircraft fuselages and shipping them into Syria for hiding.
B) The "insurgents" are absolutely nothing of the sort. They are terrorists, flooding into Iraq from other countries, and sponsored by Syria and Iran. We know this for a fact, as we have their overtaken bodies and equipment.
C) These terrorists ("insurgents") have said in their own statements that the battle for control of Iraq is the decisive battle against the US and western civilization versus Islam, and their plan to destroy the sovereign democratic Jewish state of Israel. Again, this is not supposition, this is from their own direct statements. Why is Katie Couric and the MSM not repeating this nightly?
In these same statements, the terrorists have openly said that this battle is the test of the will of Americans, and that the battle is there because we are there and that *if we retreat, it is their sign of their righteousness and they will then bring the battle to us in the US mainland*.
The Terrorists certainly know weakness when they see it. Here are a few Quotes:
Osama bin Laden: "when people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse"
Ayman al-Zawahiri: "The aftermath of the collapse of American power in Vietnam-and how they ran and left their agents-is noteworthy"
Osama bin Laden: ""We have seen in the last decade the decline of American power and the weakness of the American soldier who is ready to wage Cold Wars, but unprepared to fight long wars. This was proven in Beirut in 1983 when the Marines fled after two explosions. It also proves they can run in less than 24 hours, and this was also repeated in Somalia (in 1993).""
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah: "Regardless of how the world has changed after 11 September, Death to America will remain our reverberating and powerful slogan: Death to America."
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: "Undoubtedly, I say that this slogan and goal is achievable, and with the support and power of God, we will soon experience a world without the United States"
Hopefully the Republicans will learn from his and other Republicans arrogance. It was definitely time for him to move on and for other Republican leaders to admit mistakes in many policies, including the handling of Iraq, but not for going into Iraq in the first place.
